While in South Africa we were driving down the road and a herd of elephants were coming up the road in the opposite direction (This was in the first clip). We backed up on the other side of a T-junction and parked. In the second clip, you saw the male bull playing with the road marker at the top of the T-junction. What you did not see is down the stem of the T is a van that was parked. After a few moments, you saw a younger elephant walking down the road who decides to walk down the stem of the T. If you watched the second clip carefully, you noticed the younger elephant loose the rhythm of its step, and, although you can not see the van, it was the owner of the van starting their car that startled the younger elephant. Next, you saw the bull elephant walk toward the stem of the T-junction where the van was parked, but the van was driving off, so our car was the only one around. So, the bull elephant approached us. In this clip, you will see the bull elephant getting quite close to our less than 4 feet away and snorting at us. Fortunately, as we were not trying to hurt anything and we had obeyed the rules by keeping our required distance, the elephant, after getting quite close to our turned off car, walked away.
